The Waiting Room
2016, video installation
On a claustrophobic stage draped in white cloth a shrouded figure moves, unseeing and mute like a somnambulant, in a pantomime verging on a nightmare, while wrestling with a white chair. A pathetic take on Jean Cocteau’s Parade? A roguish Waiting for Godot? The first page of an H.C. Andersen tale? If postmodernism can be imagined in an ahistorical way as a key stylistic category, whatever time or place, many older works suddenly take on a certain importance at the present time.
